In 1998 I designed the logo for Fukakusa shihan’s Renbukan dojo, which is the national HQ for Thailand’s aikido association. It’s since been used by other dojos in the Renbukan “family” in other countries. It’s deliberately reminiscent of a mon (Japanese clan insignia) and Japan (the red sun, of course), and hopefully suggests circular and powerful movement; but actually the logo is defined by the shape of the eaves charactersitic of Thai temples (specifically, I drew these from Wat Phra Kaew, Bangkok’s temple of the emerald Buddha).
