Jiriki observes a psychic who can feel the spirits of machines that used to run in certain locations, but which have since passed away. She determines it was “iterating for a huge prime number... searching up in the ten-to-thirties... switched off abruptly...”. Paranormal claims about digital spirits will be a depressingly inevitable consequence of artificial intelligence’s increasingly dominant role in, and control over, human lives.
