Detail from another illustration for Book of Pages that never made it into the final version (drawn sometime around 1991). This one is “Born Losers”, in which Jiriki is introduced to the idea that a competitive society is one that, by definition, is engaged in the mass-production of losers. Although this page remained, at some point I reworked the illustration completely, and these two street characters don’t appear in the published book. The screens are blank because this illustration was never completed; eventually, they would have been displaying more numbers (page references to other places in Book of Pages). These were often the last things I added to an illustration just in case the position of those other pages, and hence the numbers, changed.
